Scholar in Residence

Karl Barth

The Karl Barth Center for Reformed Theology awards an annual research fellowship (Scholar in Residence) to one young scholar and one experienced researcher who wish to engage in in-depth study of the work of Karl Barth and his historical impact.
The scholarship is aimed at individuals from Switzerland and abroad who are working on an independent research project with a clear connection to Karl Barth. The duration of of your residence at the Karl Barth Center is usually between one and three months. During this time, scholarship recipients will have access to the holdings of the University Library of Basel, in particular the Karl Barth Archive, and will have the opportunity to exchange ideas with experts on site.

 

The scholarship includes:

  • Use of the working infrastructure at the Karl Barth Center
  • A private office (subject to availability)
  • Support in organizing research discussions and lectures
  • A monthly allowance to cover living expenses (negotiable)
  • Participation in the academic life of the Faculty of Theology in Basel

 

Application: Interested applicants are requested to submit the following documents:

  • Curriculum vitae with list of publications
  • Project outline (approx. 3 pages)
  • Details of the desired length of stay and preferred time period
  • Letter of recommendation (optional)

The selection will be made by the management team of the Karl Barth Center. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. The Center is happy to answer any questions and provide further information.
