Application and Admission

The University Student Administration office acceps applications online. Applications can still be filled out after the official deadlines have passed, however, it can not be guaranteed that such late applications are processed in time for the desired semester. Consequently, class enrollment for the current semester cannot be guaranteed either.

Admission to doctorate studies usually requires an acknowledged master's degree from an institution of higher education, acknowledged by the University of Basel with a "very good" final grade (min. 5.0 on a Swiss grading scale). Degrees of continuing education (e.g. Master of Advanced Studies) are no qualification for admission to Doctorate studies. The Theological Faculty offers either a Dr. theol. or a PhD, according to study qualifications. Admission to Doctorate studies can also be granted partly, requiring additional academic performances.

For information on a double doctoral degree (Cotutelle de thèse) please check the website of the Vice President's Office for Education.

Please check the handout "Admission to Doctorate Studies" for further information.
