Courses for improving your writing skills offered by the University of Basel's Language Center
Two courses of interest for students of Theology: a) Lesen und Schreiben, aber wie? Deutsch als Studier- und Wissenschaftssprache b) Writing tutorials (for German and English)
The University of Basel's Language Center places a particular emphasis on the development of writing skills. Beyond its involvement in Netzwerk Schreiben, the course of study for German supports native- and non-native German speakers – whether students, researchers, or other university employees – with specific and relevant offerings in German as a language of study and research as well as German in the workplace.
a) Lesen und Schreiben, aber wie? Deutsch als Studier- und Wissenschaftssprache
- Development of and training in efficient reading strategies
- Developing the ability to cope with large amounts of text and to summarize relevant texts correctly
- Perceiving the characteristics of academic language and applying such language in one's own texts
- Developing the ability to integrate secondary literature into one's own texts and to make reference to such literature
- Formulating topics, reserach contexts, research questions, and methods, such as on an academic poster, in an abstract, etc.
b) Writing tutorials (for German and English)
- Individual support in writing academic texts (research papers, essays, grant applications), with a focus on structure, coherence, precision, grammar, etc.
- Fee: CHF 35 per hour
