SUMMARY:Lecture Series FS 2018: Sustainability and Religion
DESCRIPTION:In many societies\, religious organisations and actors are held
in high esteem and constitute important public actors. Against the backdr
op of climate change\, some religious groups have adopted proactive positi
ons in the public sphere while others intensified their previous engagemen
t\, as prominently illustrated by Pope Francis’ encyclical “Laudato Si
: On Care for Our Common Home”. On the other hand\, religious worldviews
can also promote climate change scepticism\, thereby blocking sustainabil
ity transitions. The lecture series addresses the involvement of religion
in sustainability transitions. It explores the “greening” of different
faith traditions and the transitions activities of religious organisation
 s. Various experts will contribute to this lecture with insights from thei
r research and their activities in the field of religion and sustainabilit
 y.
